the
"There is Someone Else Here" meme

Rules:

Roll the
RNG 1-20 and choose a location.
Post with your character and the number.
Your character is now in that location and must believe or at least suspect that they are completely alone.
Tag someone with your character; your character is now in that location with theirs.
The second character may believe they are alone, or they may not.  Maybe they are looking for the first character, or maybe they are coming after them.  Maybe it's just a chance meeting.
Malicious intent/violence is not mandatory, but possible.

1)  At home, alone.

2)  A forest/wood.  It could be day or night.

3)  A bad part of town, at night.  There is nobody around, and very few street lights.

4)  A school.  Nobody should be here at this hour.

5)  A dilapidated, old hotel.  You're stuck, and need a place to stay, but nobody is at the front desk.

6)  A hospital.  Any kind, and you are trying to leave.

7)  Your car has broken down on a long, deserted road.  It is night.

8)  An abandoned farm.  There is an old barn, a ruined house, and a scarecrow stuck in a cornfield that goes for miles.

9)  A theme park, complete with circus and house of mirrors.

10)  A morgue.

11)  A castle.  Nobody comes here anymore, and you don't think anybody lives here.

12)  A wharf.  There are old warehouses around you, and it's too foggy to see more than several feet ahead.

13)  A dark cave.  You might have a small light, or not.  The rock walls are sharp, and you can hear something in the distance, maybe running water, maybe something else.

14)  An abandoned lighthouse.  The lamp doesn't work anymore.

15)  Shipwrecked on a very small, rocky island.  The tide is coming in, and you'll be stuck very soon.

16)  A larger boat, maybe even a yacht.  The smell of salt is from the sea surrounding you.

17)  A completely black room.  It's impossible to see a thing, and you can't even feel the walls.

18)  A maze.  Whether it's hedges or rooms, you are completely lost and nobody is there to help you.

19)  A research station.  Whether it's the Amazon, the Sahara, or the Arctic, it is not an easy place to reach.

20)  Space.  Whether a craft of your own, or a space station, you are very alone.

[Becky was supposed to be back home, ice skating, or singing, or studying, or whatever whim had taken her fancy that particular month. The exact details were Sebastian's worry, since the girl's charge fell to him when James was gone. It really didn't warrant a second thought.

Or, really, it shouldn't have, but while James is already lost in preparations, there is a pair of sharp, dark eyes peeking at him from around the corner. Not that she wants to announce her presence. She has enough sense to realize her father might not be entirely thrilled at her cunning escape]

[The night air on Midgard is thick with fog, choking and almost insufferable.

A formidable sight is within it, however, for those who wander too near. Those who wander too near have not been seen in many hours, though.

The horse of horses feels alone at this point. He has traveled on an unstable dock, two boards cracked from where a careful hoof broke through it. Four legs in the water, four legs on the dock, he stood for some time thinking the Bifrost would open for him.

But it has not, and he has been there for quite some time. Finally, he draws himself out of the water with a sound of something heavy and large against wood. Memory serves him to step over the broken boards, and he manages to find his way to a set of warehouses containing boats, their metallic parts and lines echoing noise in the silence.

The only other sound then is that of a ceramic bowl being moved about and a large beast licking something up. Cat food, but there are no cats.

Only the son of the god of fire and steed of the god of war.

[Bored.

That's what she was. Bored.

Faith idly flipped the stake in her hand as she walked, feeling restless. Quiet nights were the worst, especially when she had that itch under her skin that was just begging for some kind of action to take the edge off. But no. No such luck. Any vampires hadn't so much as stuck a fang in her direction tonight.

She's about to call it quits and see if she can find any clubs that didn't quit at two when she hears the sound of a struggling engine. Not that she cares. Car troubles aren't exactly vampires. But it's in the direction she was going anyway, so she follows the sound. Not like she's got anything better to do.]

[ It was funny how easily people became their own clichés. The thick fog seemed to beg for general wrongdoing, secret meetings hidden amongst abandoned warehouses and broken docks, like a faint cry calling back to the detective stories of the thirties and forties, trench coat collar turned up, fedora brim pulled down, and whispered secrets just so in-between.

Much had changed since those days, dilapidated buildings replacing those that had one been, and the style of fashion also much changed. But whispered secrets, why, fog lent itself awfully well to them, and thus they continued to be traded in this way, following the footsteps of so many secrets before them.

Was that why Loki was here? Loki Liesmith, Loki the Trickster, he ever had something up his sleeve. Certainly he too was capable of trading secrets in the darkness, but it was hard to say if that was his purpose this night.

Regardless of his motivations, his footsteps are quiet as he moves around within warehouse, like a silent spectre amongst the boats. He is so occupied with the silence of it all that the sound of the ceramic bowl startles him for a just a moment.

It isn't a surprise that he isn't alone, but the sound suggested something large. Although he wasn't sure he wanted to deal with whatever it was, his curiosity was getting the better of him. Clearly he was quieter than whatever it was, so perhaps if he just continued on slowly enough he would find it, be satisfied, and leave.

A flawless plan.]

[The beast is large, larger than any horse. If he guessed something around the size of an elephant yet heavier, he would have been correct.

It moves. The ceramic bowl skitters about, tipping and moving in a circular pattern before it wobbles, the sound of it hitting the ground echoing in its concave shape and sounding out in the stillness.

He heard something, the grand beast. An animal's hearing is one thing, but he is birthed of the god of fire as well; it is flawless. He does not have to worry, and neither does the Allfather when he is atop him in battle.

There...there are far too many of what could only be horseshoes against concrete sounding out. Not the usual clip-clop, but some strange series of sounds, like a large centipede with tap shoes on moving over pavement.

The beast exhales, snorts, tests the surrounding area with a loud, booming whinny. Those steps are sound, heavy, clear in the still, misty night.

It is searching.

It is searching for the other in the area, and giving it sounds to find him with.

[Loki recognizes those sounds. How many eight-legged horses are there in the nine realms? Answer: not many. Besides if you were to ask Sleipnir, there were none so beautiful nor amazing nor powerful, etc. etc. etc. as he. Not that Loki didn't agree with all of the above, but he and his horsechild clearly had very different standards of modesty.

Not that Loki could really fault him for it - better that he find pride in his shape and in his position than live with the same self-hatred Loki had always harbored. The trickster was glad, at least, that was not something Slepinir had inherited from him.

Once he looks for him it is not difficult at all to find him. Even in the fog that gets into the worn-down warehouse, Slepinir is magnificent.

Loki conjures an apple - green, of course - and holds it out.]

[personal profile] spiderhorse 2012-04-27 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
[He smells his mother before he speaks, and the apple as well. Gray mane is tossed as he approaches, carved teeth bared as black lips part. With the color of his coat, he could be a phantom in the fog, not quite easily corporeal in sight before he approaches him completely.

The green apple is taken quickly, crunching loudly only twice before it is swallow. The stem and its leaf, however, manages to get stuck in between his canine and neighboring tooth on one side, and he proceeds to begin fiddling with it with his giant pink tongue.

I was seeking Heimdall to open the Bifrost. I ask the same of you now, Mother.

Quite the tiring one, by the looks of it. Have they fared well?

[ She is just going to pass your classroom now and walk into the shadowy and almost completely darkened hallway carrying a few scrolls with her. ]

[personal profile] trickstering 2012-04-27 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yet that does not answer why you are here on Midgard at all.

[He takes a moment to considering helping him with the stem, not relishing the thought of getting accidentally bitten. At the same time...

Loki reaches over and grabs it for him, tossing it aside before petting his neck.]

Why are you not with the Allfather?

[personal profile] dolphin_rant 2012-04-27 06:05 am (UTC)(link)

[Did Sleipnir get a tattoo declaring him Odin's property without being aware of it? He is more than his steed, and it's about time others became aware of it.

He moves his head only in the slightest as the stem is plucked from his mouth, slicking that spot with his tongue yet again.

There is no battle and he has no need or want to travel at the moment. He is not always upon my back, you know.
]

[personal profile] trickstering 2012-04-27 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I realize.

[He moves his hand to just under Sleipnir's mane, where it meets his neck.]

[Very good, very good, that is a favorite spot of his, a damn fine spot for Loki to have found so quickly. He lets out a short nicker to show that the prince's hand is much appreciated in its spot, picking up his first left leg and last right leg as a dog would out compulsiveness.

I do not know. I was simply here, which was why I was seeking out Gatekeeper Heimdall.
]

[personal profile] trickstering 2012-04-27 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
[See? Loki may not get to spend excessive amounts of time with him, but he knows what makes Sleipnir happy.]

It is a wonder that you have heard nothing from him.
