[The forest, its bare trees with their branches bent in what, from the right angle, looks like a grotesque parody of the human shape, is the Slender Man's natural hunting grounds; here, the little glitches in consciousness that give it shape, the dark, shadowy fears that have drawn it to its human prey for centuries, are at their most numerous.

Here, it can stalk its victims at its leisure, whipping their terror to the frenzied peaks that make their minds easiest to dissect.

Here, it can spread its contagion, inject into the minds of its prey a memetic infection like psychic toxoplasmosis that draws more humans inexorably toward it, and it to them.
